3 Automotive Marketing Trends to Watch in 2017

automotive advertising trends of 2017

With 2016 is in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look ahead to 2017 and the key automotive marketing trends that are likely to dominate the year to come.

At Graham Oleson, we are always looking for ways to help dealers get ahead and stay ahead of their competition. Our team took some time recently to predict which developing storylines will be the most important for the auto industry in the near future.

Here are our choices for the top three automotive marketing trends to watch in 2017.

Automotive Marketing Trends to Watch

Video Marketing

Video marketing gives dealers the power to engage and entertain car shoppers through strategically crafted visual messages. When done right, videos can put a more friendly, human face on a business; they can build trust and authority in a brand; and, most importantly, they can generate sales.

According to the latest survey by the Web Video Marketing Council, well over 90 percent of B2B marketers were already utilizing video in their strategies over a year ago. This hot trend is poised to dominate dealers’ B2C strategies in 2017 and beyond.

Integration of Marketing & Sales Departments

Today’s buyers don’t rely on guidance from a car salesperson the way they used to. More and more they’re turning to peer recommendations, reviews, and informational online content — all contact points developed and managed by your marketing team — to research a purchasing decision.

The line between marketing and sales is blurring. In 2017, we predict that more dealerships will embrace this trend by making an effort to integrate their marketing efforts with their sales staff on the floor. The technology (CRM software, analytics, etc.) is there to make it happen. All it takes is a sales staff open to new input and processes and a marketing team with a focus on sales generation.

Social Advertising

eMarketer forecasts ad spend on social networks will approach $36 billion in 2017. Targeted advertising on social media platforms has already had a huge impact in other industries, and we predict that 2017 is the year it becomes one of the most impactful automotive marketing trends.

Are you using social ads yet? Are you making an effort to integrate your marketing with your sales team? Do you use video to capture more customers?

These are the automotive marketing trends to watch in 2017. Make sure that you’re ahead of the game!
